Work Method For Wall Plastering


Plaster is a building material used for the protective or decorative coating of walls and ceilings and for moulding and casting decorative elements Plastering also provides a finished surface over the masonry that is firm and smooth hence it enhances the appearance of the building

 MATERIAL

 1.  Cement confirms to IS 269 : OPC 53 Gr as technical specification
 2.   Fine aggregates of usually natural source confirms IS 1542
 3.   Water confirms to IS 456:2000
 4.    Plaster mesh as specified

MACHINERIES AND EQUIPMENTS

1.   Sand sieve screen

4.   Masonic spirit level
5.   Other required tools and tackles
6.   Measuring box

PREPARATION OF SURFACE

1.  Check for base preparation i.e. bulging, honeycomb, protruding of steel bars etc. in
     concrete, rectify it if any.
2.   The joints in all walls shall be raked to depth of 15mm, brush cleaned with wire
      brushed, dusted and  thoroughly wetted before straight plaster work.
3.   Coving of 30 mm at slab and wall junction should be done properly. Bands and groove
      shall be done as specified.
4.   Concrete surface to receive plaster shall be roughened by hacking over the entire
      surface so that the skin of the concrete is completed remove.
5.   Cement slurry to be applied to RCC surface before plastering.
6.   All chasing, installations of conduits, inserts boxes etc shall be completed and get
     cleared from MEP teams before start of plaster.
7.   Broken corners shall be cut back not less than 150 mm on both sides and patched with
      plaster of paries as directed. All corners shall be rounded to radius of 8 mm.
8.   Plastering shall be starts from top to bottom.

PREPARATION OF MORTAR

1.   The mortar shall be prepared in the required proportion.
2.   The mortar shall be prepared in required proportion with waterproofing compound for external plaster.
3.   The mortar shall be thoroughly mixed in mechanical mixer.
4.   Water shall be added gradually in required quantity.
5.    Cement mortar shall be prepared in required quantity and not more than one bag of cement at time shall be used. This quantity shall be consumed within half on an hour after mixing.

PLASTERING

1.    Check for required surface finish as per approved mock up.
2.    To ensure for even thickness and true surface made thickness level pads on the entire surface at 1.5 meter intervals.
3.     Plaster shall be laid up to a required thickness and pressed and leveled with wooden rule to a finished thickness.
4.    All joints between concrete frames and masonry in filling shall be expressed by groove cut in the plaster.  The said groove shall coincide with the joints beneath as directed where joints are not called for the joints between concrete and masonry shall be covered by plaster mesh manufactured from galvanized steel strip.
